I Believe Jesus Was Resurrected

I believe Jesus was resurrected from the dead. This belief stands at the very center of the Christian faith. Christianity does not rest merely on moral teachings, religious traditions, emotional experiences, or philosophical ideas. It rests on the historical reality that Jesus Christ truly died, was buried, and rose again on the third day. The resurrection is not an optional doctrine, a poetic image, or a symbol of renewal. It is the declaration that God has acted in history to defeat sin, death, Satan, and the grave through His Son.

The resurrection matters because Jesus truly died. The Bible does not present the death of Christ as an illusion or a misunderstanding. Jesus was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered physically, publicly, and shamefully. His body was nailed to a Roman cross. He breathed His last. His side was pierced. He was taken down from the cross and placed in a tomb. The reality of His death is essential because the resurrection is not the recovery of a wounded man, but the victory of the Son of God over death itself. Jesus entered the grave fully and came out of it triumphantly.

I believe Jesus was bodily resurrected. He did not merely live on in the memories of His disciples. He was not raised only as a spiritual influence or inspiring example. The same Jesus who was crucified was raised. After His resurrection, He appeared to His disciples, spoke with them, ate with them, and showed them His wounds. His resurrection body was glorified, but it was still truly His body. This matters because salvation is not only the rescue of the soul but the redemption of the whole person. Christ’s bodily resurrection is the guarantee that God will one day raise His people bodily as well.

The resurrection also proves that Jesus is who He claimed to be. During His earthly ministry, Jesus spoke with divine authority. He forgave sins, claimed unity with the Father, called men and women to follow Him, and declared that He would rise again. If Jesus had remained in the tomb, His claims would have been empty. But by raising Him from the dead, God publicly vindicated His Son. The resurrection declares that Jesus is not merely a prophet, teacher, reformer, or martyr. He is the eternal Son of God, the promised Messiah, and the Lord of glory.

The resurrection also proves that the sacrifice of Christ was accepted by the Father. On the cross, Jesus bore the sins of His people. He stood in the place of sinners as their substitute. He endured the wrath of God that they deserved. He offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice, once for all. If Christ had not been raised, there would be no certainty that sin had been paid for. But the empty tomb announces that the debt is settled. The Father accepted the sacrifice of the Son. Justice has been satisfied. Redemption has been accomplished.

This is why the apostle Paul says that if Christ has not been raised, our faith is futile and we are still in our sins. Without the resurrection, there is no gospel. There may be religious sentiment, moral advice, and spiritual language, but there is no saving good news. A dead savior cannot save. A defeated messiah cannot conquer. A buried lord cannot reign. But Christ has been raised from the dead. Therefore, the Christian faith is not futile. Sin has truly been dealt with. Death has truly been defeated. Salvation has truly been secured for all who belong to Christ.

I believe the resurrection gives hope to every believer. Christians still suffer. They still grieve. They still face weakness, pain, aging, and death. But they do not face these things as those without hope. Because Jesus rose, death no longer has the final word. The grave is not the end of the story. Christ’s resurrection is the firstfruits of the resurrection to come. Just as He was raised, so all who are united to Him by faith will also be raised. The believer’s hope is not escape from creation, but resurrection life in the presence of God.

The resurrection also changes how Christians live now. Since Christ has been raised, believers are called to walk in newness of life. The resurrection is not only a future hope; it is a present power. Those who have been united to Christ have died to sin and have been raised to live for God. The risen Christ gives His people strength to fight sin, endure suffering, love others, forgive enemies, serve the church, and proclaim the gospel. The Christian life is not lived in the strength of human willpower alone, but in union with the risen Savior.

The resurrection also declares that Jesus reigns. He is not simply a figure from the past. He is alive today. After His resurrection, He ascended to the right hand of the Father, where He rules and intercedes for His people. The risen Christ is Lord over heaven and earth. He governs history, builds His church, sustains His saints, and will return in glory. The resurrection means that the world does not belong to death, darkness, or chaos. It belongs to Jesus Christ, the crucified and risen King.

Because Jesus was resurrected, the gospel must be proclaimed to all people. The resurrection is not private encouragement for religious people only. It is God’s public announcement that Jesus is Lord and that all people must repent and believe in Him. The risen Christ commands the nations to be discipled. He offers forgiveness of sins to all who come to Him in faith. He gives eternal life freely to those who trust in Him. The empty tomb calls every person to stop trusting in self and to bow before the living Christ.

I believe Jesus was resurrected because Scripture clearly teaches it, the apostles boldly preached it, and the church was built upon it. The resurrection was the message that turned fearful disciples into courageous witnesses. It was the truth they preached in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. They did not preach a vague spirituality. They preached Christ crucified and risen.

To believe in the resurrection is to believe that God has spoken the final word over sin and death. Jesus lives. His work is finished. His kingdom cannot fail. His people are secure. His enemies will be defeated. His promises will come to pass. The tomb is empty, the Savior is alive, and the hope of the Christian is firm forever. Christ is risen, and because He is risen, everything has changed.
